dripping 0001
Quick video with some added trendy music!
dripping e liquid directly onto an e-cigarette atomiser

Many electronic cigarette owners prefer to do away with topping-off or refilling cartridges and drip e liquid directly onto their e-cigarette atomisers in a method known as dripping. The many advocates of this method claim it improves vapour production and 'throat hit'.

enclosed e-cigarette atomisers

Dripping is easier when using e-cigarettes with an enclosed atomiser such as the 901 series. In these models, the e-cigarette atomiser is a longish metal tube (approximately a third of the length of an entire ecig) which has the metal mesh 'bridge' of the atomiser nestling at the bottom.

exposed e-cigarette atomiser

The comparatively tiny atomiser portion of e-cigarette models such as the Pilot or M401 series however, have the metal mesh bridge entirely exposed and poking up out of the atomiser casing. Without the enclosed atomiser's metal tube 'walls' to catch and channel any wayward e liquid drips, aim and accuracy is far more important and makes dripping a little trickier until you get the hang of it.

how long between dripping sessions?

This varies greatly but just as a rough guide, you'll need to drip again after 20-30 'puffs' of your e-cigarette. Try to avoid getting to the point where the vapour tastes burnt or the outside of your atomiser feels hot to the touch because you could burn it out. And when dripping, ensure you don't overfill and flood the atomiser because e liquid can then seep through and kill your battery. A few drops of e liquid are sufficient.

So, although dripping is quick and easy, a certain amount of user trial and error is necessary before it all becomes second nature.  Here's how it's done.

the dripping method

WARNING - PLEASE READ OUR NICOTINE PAGE BEFORE HANDLING E LIQUID

   1. You will only need the empty mouthpiece, so remove any inner cartridges or fillers.

   2. For enclosed atomiser models, simply drip 3 or 4 drops of e liquid directly into the atomiser tube, aiming as closely as possible for the metal mesh bridge inside. The walls of the atomiser will eventually channel any misplaced e liquid down into the right place.

   3. Because exposed atomiser models have no 'walls' to channel or contain any excess e liquid, accuracy is particularly important. Lightly touch the wire mesh bridge of an exposed atomiser with the nozzle or dropper until a few drops of e liquid have been transferred.

   4. Replace the empty mouthpiece and wait for a moment before using your ecigarette to allow the capilliary action of the mesh to draw e liquid down into the heart of the atomiser.

   5. Note: You can use a syringe to drip the e liquid onto your e-cigarette atomiser if preferred, but most people drip straight from an e liquid bottle.

Thanks so much Fred, just what I wanted - it must seem obvious to those that have been vaping for ages, but for us newbies it is, as you say, a bit daunting as I dont want to flood the thing or break it.

Have got a new battery on charge and will be having a go this evening.  I'll let you know how I get on

Grin  It works!!!!  Yippeee, what a load of worry over nothing, this dripping is so much easier than messing about with carts and trying to stuff bits of kitchen roll or felt stuff in.

Thanks Fred, makes my vaping life much easier !
