Voopoo Argus Pro 2 Kit Review

Voopoo’s Argus range is built for vapers seeking convenient devices that don’t bog them down with technicalities and complex functions. Today, I’m lucky to be reviewing one of the latest kits from the range: the Argus Pro 2 Kit.

A follow-up to the original Argus Pro, the Pro 2, while similar in some aspects like the battery capacity and maximum wattage, boasts improvements in build design, pod compatibility, and coil longevity, as well as new user modes such as Turbo mode.

The question now is it worth the upgrade? Read on to find out.

Review Summary: The Voopoo Argus Pro 2 Kit is a great sub-ohm kit for casual to serious vapers. Real DIY / dual-battery mod enthusiasts might find it a little simple, but the average cloud fan will love the selection of user modes and the simple functionality of the kit.

Review Disclosure: Voopoo was generous enough to provide MIST with a brand-new Argus Pro 2 kit. However, my thoughts, views, and opinions are all my own.

Packaging and Labels

The packaging for the Voopoo Argus Pro 2 follows the same aesthetic design as all Voopoo kits released this year. It has a cardboard sleeve with logos and graphics covering a white cardboard box.

Inside the box is a USB-C charging cable, user manual, PnP-X Pod Tank instruction manual, and a spare 0.3ohm PnP-X Coil to complement the 0.15ohm coil pre-installed in the pod tank.

Build Quality

Score: 4/5

The Argus Pro 2 is made from zinc alloy, which surprised me because, despite its large battery capacity, it is incredibly light! In fact, when I wore the device around my neck on a lanyard, I barely felt it!

As for its dimensions, the fully assembled kit measures 127.4mm (With the PnP-X Pod Tank installed). It is not too small or too tall, though it might stick out the top of your pocket, making the lanyard option more appealing.

It also has a leatherette grip panel. However, it feels slightly less thick and ‘springy’ than the leatherette panels featured on other recent kits, like the DRAG X2 and S2.

For the PnP-X Pod Tank, it combines an acrylic e-liquid and coil housing area with a zinc-alloy lid that features stepless top-airflow adjustment, which is great for preventing leaks and spills.

Sadly, there’s no top-fill, and the pod is filled through a secure rubber hatch on the base. It would have been nice to refill without having to remove the pod tank. The good news is that the tank can be easily pulled away from the magnetic connection that holds it in place.

Finally, a rubber disc is fitted into the base of the kit to prevent you from scuffing hard surfaces when you put the kit down, which is a nice touch your hardwood dining table will thank you for.

I’ve only left one point off the build quality score as I would have liked to see the device feature some degree of ingress protection, such as IP67 or IP68. Ultimately, such builds are still widely uncommon, so it’s not a particularly bad failing.

Performance

Score: 5/5

The device features three user modes, which you can access by holding down the ‘up’ and ‘down’ buttons. Doing so takes you to a menu with four options: Mode, Setting, About Device and Exit.

Setting only lets you reset your puff counter, not a feature most care about but suitable for those tracking their nicotine intake. About Device just gives you the product code for the onboard Gene TT 2.0 chipset, so there is not much to write about there.

Modes takes you to a second menu, where you can select from three different user modes with the firing button.

  • Smart mode is selected by default. It uses the Gene chip to detect your coil’s optimal wattage, reducing the likelihood of burnouts or misfires.
  • RBA mode effectively takes the stabilisers off the bike and lets you select any wattage you see fit.
  • Turbo mode provides an additional 25% of power for the first second of firing, ensuring a big lungful of thick vapour.

Between the up-down buttons and 0.96″ TFT screen, you’ll find the dynamic switch, which, when pushed up, locks the device. This prevents you from changing the power settings or even firing the device, which is great for when you need to stow the kit but not for so long as to require it to be turned off completely.

Battery Life

Score: 5/5

I’m immensely impressed with the kit’s 3000mAh battery. It’s enough to charge to let me kick out consistent 80W outputs all day, yet somehow, Voopoo has managed to retain a light carry weight. Ordinarily, a large battery cell would result in a weighty carry, so I’m not sure what voodoo Voopoo utilised to achieve that, but I’m glad they did.

The kit charges up relatively quickly, though you need to be realistic about getting an empty 3000mAh battery from empty to full in a pinch.

If you’re prone to forgetfulness when it comes to charging a device, consider one of Voopoo’s external battery kits, like the DRAG X2. However, USB-C provides quick charging, and ultimately, you’re likely to get through the day with a less-than-full battery.

I was a little disappointed that the kit didn’t have a battery-preserving Eco mode, which many Voopoo kits feature, but 3000mAh is more than enough to soothe that heartache.

Flavour Output

Score: 4/5

The flavour will always come down to the coils more than anything else, and the PnP-X series does a fine job of conveying vape juice flavours without imparting any unwanted tastes.

The coils’ design includes some flavour-enhancing features, such as high-quality cotton designed to remain stable at high temperatures and honeycombed meshes.

While the PnP-X coils aren’t as hyper-fixated on flavour purity as some other coil ranges, I felt they deserved a 4 / 5 for flavour output because of how long each coil’s flavour-carrying ability lasts. Voopoo state that each PnP-X coil can handle atomising up to 100mls of e-liquid before requiring a change.

It’s a bold claim, but I’ve almost gone through an entire 100ml shortfill without cracking out the spare coil, so they pulled it off nicely!

Summary

The Voopoo Argus Pro 2 Kit is a great sub-ohm kit for casual to serious vapers. Real DIY / dual-battery mod enthusiasts might find it a little simple, but the average cloud fan will love the selection of user modes and the simple functionality of the kit.

The MIST Favourite Feature: Turbo mode is a brilliant feature that gives your cloud session a noticeable kick of power without excessively draining the battery, doubtlessly due to the excellent chips Voopoo always uses.
