Voopoo Argus A Review

Voopoo’s Argus line consists of several vape kits, each with its own unique features and price points to suit the experience and preferences of different vapers. With the latest addition, the Argus A, I’m curious to see whether this newest model is just a quick rehash or if it brings something fresh to set it apart from other Argus devices—and pod kits from competing brands.

Packaging and Labels

The Argus A arrives in a cardboard box covered in a mostly white sleeve, with the picture of the device, company logo, and device name on the front.

One side of the sleeve simply states the colour within, while the other displays design features such as the screen setup and sliding airflow control. The back of the box shows the contents list, as well as contact information for Voopoo.

Removing the sleeve reveals the spares box, which holds the spare pod and charging cable. The kit itself is underneath, wrapped in sealed plastic, and with another pod already installed. Keep in mind that the inserted pod has a sticker on the underside to prevent an electrical connection in transit. So, don’t forget to remove the sticker!

Build Quality

Score: 4.5/5

I *love* the build quality of the Argus A. It has a very unique box shape, with comfortable rounded edges and a lovely faint brushed matte effect to the steel casing that assists in grip while looking eye-catching.

The front of the device reveals one of the unique aspects of the kit; the dual screens, with a round one beneath and a crescent screen just above. The screens are full-colour, very detailed and brightly lit.

One side of the kit has a small airflow slider stud, while the other side has the charging port, locking switch and firing button, which can also be used to navigate the menus and change the wattage output.

The back of the kit has the Argus logo in glossy steel.

Once again, the kit utilises the Argus Pod range, which connects with sturdy magnets. Sadly, the pod sinks a bit too far into the device to allow for refilling while the pod is attached, but it’s a minor issue in an otherwise superb vape kit build. For that reason, I’m shaving off half a point.

Performance

Score: 5/5

The Argus A operates like a dream, frankly. The auto-draw is very fast and responsive, making it a good cigarette replacement vape. And despite being a single-button kit, the menu is surprisingly easy to navigate.

  • Two taps of the firing button turns off the screen to save power or simply promote discretion.
  • Three taps allows you to change the wattage output.
  • Five taps take you to the radial menu on the circular screen, which offers options to exit, clear the puff count, lock the device, view a detailed overview of your usage rates, and finally, change user mode.

There are three user modes too:

  • The device is in Power Mode by default, which lets you select the wattage you prefer.
  • Super Mode instead fires at the maximum appropriate wattage for your pod of choice to produce the best flavour and clouds possible.
  • Eco Mode lowers the battery consumption of the device and helps you stretch out its use when you aren’t able to charge it.

It’s a lot of functionality crammed into a small and remarkably user-friendly device. As a final note, the low carry weight of the kit makes it very easy to wear with the included lanyard cable.

Ease of Use

Score: 4.5/5

Aiden trying the Argus A

A total beginner wouldn’t find the Argus A difficult to master. While it does have some modes and functions that might confuse newcomers, the default mode is very simple to understand, and the draw-activation will suit new vapers used to cigarettes and disposable vapes.

New vapers might find some details on the display screen a bit confusing, and for that reason, I’ve removed a half-point. The ability to turn the distracting screen off once you’ve found your ideal power output is a great newbie-friendly touch.

Battery Life

Score: 3.5-5

The battery for the Argus A is reasonable decent, with a maximum capacity of 1100mAh. That’s a fair enough amount of charge for a dedicated MTL machine, but the 30W max output of the Argus A gives me pause.

I think they could have gone the extra mile in trying to fit a 1500mAh battery instead, as 1100mAh is likely to run out if you’re chain vaping all day.

However, I’m only taking off a point and a half because Voopoo did at least go the distance of adding Eco Mode and an option to turn off the screen to save power, so they are at least aware of heavy vapers’ power requirements.

Flavour Output

Score: 4.5/5

Aiden vaping the Argus A

The Argus Pods are as tasty as ever, and still boast the four air-inlets for maximum flavour production. The pods have also been recently upgraded with Voopoo’s iCosm Code, which adds a layer of silver ion that prevents the growth of bacteria. This results in coils that last longer and flavour that stays pure for longer.

Summary

The Voopoo Argus A was a surprise! It doesn’t resemble previous Argus kits, outside of using the same coil platform. But I found it very satisfying to use, providing both user-friendly convenience and advanced functionality, if you go looking for it.

The MIST Favourite Feature:

  • Dual Screens: While they might drain the battery slightly faster, the dual screens are beautifully designed and very informative, adding a new layer of excitement to the device.
