Mouth-to-lung kits make up the majority of vape devices, which is understandable as most people begin vaping to replace cigarettes. That increased selection does, however, make it all the more difficult to determine which kits are the best mouth to lung vapes.
I’ve spent over ten years helping people find the most suitable vape starter kits, and in my experience, it’s never one-size-fits-all. The best vape kits have features and functions that appeal to your needs, so today, I will outline eight awesome MTL vapes with different strengths. I do not doubt you’ll have found a kit that will serve you perfectly by the end.
The Best Mouth to Lung Vape Overall is the OXVA XLIM SQ Pro Pod Kit
What else could you need from an MTL vape kit? The OXVA XLIM SQ Pro combines ordinarily contrasting features: a massive battery for such a small kit, advanced menu options, and beginner-friendly functionality. Leak-proof pods and fast 2A charge speeds are the cherry on top of the best MTL vape kit you can acquire today.
The Best Mouth to Lung Vapes in 2024 are:
- OXVA Xlim SQ Pro
- Aspire Flexus AIO
- Voopoo Doric Galaxy
- Voopoo VMATE Pro
- Innokin EZ Tube Zenith Minimal
- Aspire Minican 3 Pro
- Lost Mary Tappo
- Voopoo Doric Q
OXVA Xlim SQ Pro
Top MTL Vape
Features We Love
Compact King
Highly portable design
Many mAhs
Impressive 1200mAh in a small build
Smarty
Smart mode ensures no accidental high firings
I’ll tell you right off the bat that I’m a massive fan of the XLIM SQ Pro. It does everything an MTL device needs to do in style and comfort.
The device’s tiny MTL pod kit build size is only 54.4mm x 20.4mm x 77mm, and it can fit snugly into even a breast pocket. Despite this, the kit carries a 1200mAh internal battery, enough to power at least a couple of days of MTL vaping and recharging to complete in only 45 minutes.
While I rely on the kit’s Smart mode for automatic power settings, you can explore a 5-30W output range to find your own puffing sweet spot.
Add to all this the upgraded XLIM V3 Pods, which can be refilled without being removed, and you’re dealing with an exceptional MTL package that any smoker will find perfect for replacing cigarettes.
Pros
- Discreet and travel-friendly design
- Rapid 2A 45-minute charge speeds
- Wide 5-30W wattage output range
Cons
- Some may find the ‘slab’ build unfamiliar to grip
- Optional menu themes are a pointless feature
Aspire Flexus AIO
Best for: Heavy Smokers
Features We Love
Heavy Duty: Enough battery and power to satisfy intense cravings
Easy Flex: Simple enough for a total beginner to master quickly
Trio Tier: Three tiers of power you can cycle between with one button
If you’re a heavy smoker looking to quit cigarettes, you need a long-lasting vape kit that’s both easy to use and capable of some higher outputs. The Aspire Flexus AIO Pod Kit has everything you need in a stylish package.
The device’s 2000mAh battery is the second largest featured today, just shy of the Innokin EZ Tube Zenith Minimal. This increased cell size means you’re unlikely to be caught without any battery when you most need it.
You can also switch between three different tiers of power output with one button tap, allowing you to ramp things up for a larger puff without having to learn the ins and outs of wattage.
Refilling is quickly done with a quarter turn of the pod lid, though admittedly, it will often result in the pod shifting position, which is frustrating as the pod position determines airflow.
But, ultimately, what you need is a vape with longevity and power, two things the Flexus AIO Pod Kit has in spades.
Pros
- Sizable 2000mAh battery life
- Easy and numberless power adjustment
- Attractive semi-transparent build design
Cons
- Plastic elements can be fragile if dropped
- The refill method can impact the adjustable airflow slider
Voopoo Doric Galaxy
Best for: Quitting Smoking
Features We Love
Fab Filters: Filter tips look and feel like cigarette filters
Bountiful Bank: Included 1800mAh power bank for recharging
Snap-Off: The Galaxy Pen can be detached for greater portability
Every vape is good for quitting smoking, but sometimes a kit like the Voopoo Doric Galaxy goes the extra distance in fulfilling that sense of cigarette nostalgia.
The Doric Galaxy pen comes with a pre-fitted acrylic drip tip, which is tapered to suit MTL draws better. However, the kit also comes with optional paper ‘filter’ style drip tips that have the exact same mouth-feel as a cigarette end!
The pen itself contains a 500mAh battery, which isn’t too large. This, however, is bolstered by the included 1800mAh power bank! You can vape the pen by itself for a cigarette style MTL vaping experience, or with the power bank attached for a session that can last for days without a recharge.
Sadly, unlike most MTL devices, the pen can only be charged through the power bank, but it’s a small downside to a fantastic power-preservation accessory that ensures the Doric Galaxy won’t let you down while stimulating the parts of your memory that remember smoking with fondness.
Pros
- Cigarette-esque filter tips
- Ample power from the included power bank
- Simple and unassuming design
Cons
- The pen cannot be recharged by itself
- Filter tips become sodden after a day of use
Voopoo VMATE Pro
Best for: Flavour
Features We Love
Silver Shock: Silver ion coats the coils to prevent bacterial buildup
Pick a Puff: Choose between button-activation and draw-activated use
Unrestricted: Good for if you like a bit of RDL use
Flavour is one of the many advantages vaping has over smoking. However, some kits can affect the taste of your vape juice with poor coil materials. The Voopoo VMATE Pro Pod Kit provides pure and flavourful puffs every time.
The VMATE Pro’s taste plateaus are due to its unique coil construction method. The preinstalled coils in the VMATE V2 Pods are coated in a layer of silver ion, which eliminates 99% of bacteria from developing on the moist coil surfaces. This unique solution to a common issue results in vape juice that continues to taste excellent long into the coil’s lifespan.
The 5-25W output range keeps things within MTL territory, though the 0.7ohm pod is excellent for RDL inhaling, which you can further improve with the airflow slider.
With a 900mAh battery that usually lasts a whole day without charging, the Voopoo VMATE Pro is the best MTL vape for flavour, providing great-tasting puffs whenever and wherever you need them.
Pros
- Anti-bacterial coil coatings for flavour preservation
- RDL functionality
- Decently sized battery
Cons
- Tiny display screen
- The rounded base makes it hard to stand upright
Innokin EZ Tube Zenith Minimal
Best for: Battery
Features We Love
Mighty mAh: Gigantic 2100mAh battery that lasts for days
How You Like It: Wide wattage range to suit your preferences
Zesty Zenith: Tank compatible with all Z-Coils and can be deep-cleaned
The only advantage cigarettes have over vapes is that they don’t run out of battery. But if you equip yourself with a device like the Innokin EZ Tube Zenith Minimal, you can put those concerns aside.
The vape unit’s 2100mAh battery is contained within its wide cylinder casing. Admittedly, this results in a heavier and bulkier construction than the other vape kits featured today, but it’s a small price to pay for a vape that just keeps going.
The EZ Tube battery can be set anywhere between 6-40W by just tapping the firing button twice and turning the dial at the kit’s base, giving you many vape style options. The Zenith Minimal tank can be totally disassembled for deep cleaning between vape juice flavours and is compatible with the full range of Innokin Z-Coils.
While it’s a heftier choice, the EZ Tube Zenith Minimal is the best MTL mod for battery life. It can be used for days on end, and that’s the main thing many of your readers will be looking for.
Pros
- Extensive battery life
- Versatile wattage range
- Complete tank disassembly for deep-cleaning
Cons
- Poor display screen placement
- Heavy and bulky construction
Aspire Minican 3 Pro
Best for: Travel
Features We Love
Out And About: Perfect size and weight for travel vaping
Messless: Pods specially designed for leak-protection
A to B: The 900mAh battery is lightweight and lasts all-day
Travellers need tiny vapes, and the Aspire Minican 3 Pro Pod Kit is the best MTL pod vape for travel, with a build that you can take anywhere.
Measuring a petite 100.5mm x 28.2mm x 15.7mm and weighing a featherweight 40.5g, the Minican 3 Pro will never feel heavy in your pocket or palm. This makes it ideal for travelling, and the 900mAh battery shouldn’t have any problems lasting from your journey’s beginning to end.
Admittedly, the side display screen is a little small, though up close, it’s very detailed with battery level, coil health, and puff count readouts.
The bottom-fill pods are highly leak-resistant and notably transparent, making it easy to gauge your current e-liquid levels even when moving.
Pros
- Super lightweight and portable for travelling ease
- The battery can withstand long journeys
- Highly leak-resistant pods
Cons
- Small screen may be hard for you to read
- Bottom-fill pod design makes refills annoying
Lost Mary Tappo
Best for: Beginners
Features We Love
New Guys: A tremendous first rechargeable vape kit
Authentic Taste: It’s the same e-liquid used in Lost Mary disposables
Penny Puffs: Two 2ml pods for the same price as one 2ml disposable
Many total beginners either lack the confidence to learn about coils, wattage, and whatnot or are disposable vape users who resent the upcoming ban on single-use devices.
I ask both of these groups why not try a stepping stone first? The Lost Marry Tappo Prefilled Pod Kit does everything a vape kit needs to but without all the fuss of a true refillable vape kit.
Made by Elf Bar and utilising 2ml pods filled with genuine Lost Mary flavours, the Tappo contains a rechargeable 750mAh battery that makes it look and feel like a disposable vape. There are no buttons for you to worry about; you pop in a pod, vape until it’s done and then replace it with a new one for a fraction of the price of tobacco or disposable vapes.
I’ll be honest with you; it’s not going to offer the same value and personalisation as a true refillable MTL vape kit, but it’s a significant first step towards a better solution for nicotine relief.
Pros
- The perfect training-wheels vape kit
- Genuine Elf Bar / Lost Mary e-liquids used
- Surprisingly large 750mAh battery
Cons
- The value isn’t as good as a true refillable
- No airflow control settings
Voopoo Doric Q
Best for: Price
Features We Love
Cheap Puffs: Costs barely more than a disposable vape
ITO Coils FTW: Both disposable and coilless ITO Pods are available
MTL Marvel: ITO Pod mouthpieces are tapered for MTL puffs
A common irony is that the only thing preventing a prospective vaper from enjoying the greater value of vaping is the financial hurdle of the initial kit purchase. Kits like the Voopoo Doric Q provide the full vaping package without a steep price of admission.
Costing barely any more than a disposable vape, the Doric Q boasts an 800mAh battery, larger than some more expensive kits like the Uwell Whirl F.
I won’t sugar-coat it; the Doric Q isn’t the best-made vape in the world. Its plastic construction is a little creaky and likely won’t survive a tumble down stone steps, but the auto-draw is very responsive, and the ITO Pods deliver surprisingly rich flavours.
I’ve worked with vapes for over ten years, and I honestly wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Doric Q to any vape-curious person who didn’t want to spend a fortune. Your first car wasn’t a Ferrari, but it certainly got the job done.
Pros
- Incredibly cheap vape pen
- Good pod selection
- The ITO Pod tips are perfect for MTL use
Cons
- Very fragile plastic build
- No extra features at all
FAQ
What Kind of E-liquid Should I Use With A Mouth Lung Vape?
We recommend using either high-PG or 50 VG / 50 PG ratio e-liquids, as mouth-to-lung vaping kits are fitted with medium-to-high resistance coils that are designed to absorb thinner juices. Nic salts are universally thin in composition, so they are also a safe bet and make up some of the best MTL vape juice options for mouth-to-lung vaping.
Just be sure to avoid anything high-VG. For more info, check out our ultimate guide to PG/VG.
PG/VG Ratio | MTL Vaping Capability |
---|---|
70PG/30VG | Perfect. Light vapour, rich flavour and a strong throat hit (if using freebase nicotine). |
50VG/50PG | Suitable. Moderate vapour, good flavour and a noticeable throat hit. |
70VG/30PG | Poor. Thick clouds, lessened flavour and unable to efficiently absorb into MTL coils. |
Are MTL Vapes Suitable for Beginners?
Absolutely! In fact, in the vast majority of cases, we would always recommend MTL vapes to a new vaper just coming off cigarettes or disposable vapes. DTL vapes are excellent, and some vapers prefer the big cloud action they provide. However, we would encourage you to start out with an MTL kit and see how you get on. To learn more about MTL vape kits, we highly suggest checking our what is an MTL vape kit guide.
Can I Use An MTL Vape Kit for Direct Lung Vaping?
While it is technically possible to use an MTL kit for DL vaping, we’d recommend against it as the e-liquids used in MTL kits are much stronger and can irritate the throat and chest, not being designed for huge clouds.
Whereas mouth-to-lung replicates cigarette smoking and drinking from a straw (draw into your mouth with pressure then take to the lung with breath), direct-to-lung is like an inhaler, drawn straight down with no oral stop off.
We have a more detailed description in our MTL vs DTL vaping guide.
Does MTL Vape Give More Flavour?
Usually it is the case that MTL vaping produces richer flavours. This is for two reasons; PG is better at carrying flavour than the excessive VG you find in sub-ohm vape juices. This is coupled with the best MTL vape kits generating a more concentrated ‘beam’ of flavoursome vapour that doesn’t get diluted in a large cloud.
Should MTL have more or less airflow?
This is a case of personal preference. Less airflow means a tighter draw, which feels more like a cigarette inhale. A wider airflow results in a cloudier inhale, which will give you a stronger nicotine dose.
What wattage is good for MTL?
This can vary, but generally, MTL vape coils (meaning vape coils registering a resistance of 0.8ohm and higher) will require approximately 9W – 13W outputs. Many MTL vape kits will automatically set the appropriate wattage for coils used by MTL vapers.
