Innokin Klypse Pro Review by MIST

The original Klypse vape kit from Innokin was a relatively basic device with a simple yet groundbreaking feature: a detachable dust cap. This alone made the Klypse a must-have for many vapers who were sick of inhaling a mouthful of pocket lint when taking a puff.

Innokin then took the Klypse in a new direction with the Klypse Mecha, introducing power adjustment to the device yet foolishly sacrificing the dust cap, the killer feature of the original kit.

The new Klypse Pro seeks to return to the old design yet retains power adjustment from the Mecha in the aim of delivering us the best of both worlds. I’ve personally found the Klypse Pro to be a tasty, satisfying device with a decent degree of customisation, improving on both previous devices in several ways. Packaging and Labels 

The Innokin Klypse Pro Kit arrives in a cardboard box covered by a black sleeve, a far cry from the tan cardboard boxes Innokin started using around the time of the Endura T22 Pro’s release.

The front of the sleeve shows the kit’s name and photo, the company logo, and a TPD-compliant health warning.

One side of the sleeve mentions compatibility with the full Klypse pod range and showcases the dust cap, whereas the other side lists the device’s features, like the hidden screen and increased battery capacity.

The back of the sleeve shows the kit contents, Innokin’s contact information, an authenticity hologram, and another TPD health warning.

When the sleeve is removed, the Klypse Pro device (with a 0.6ohm pod already fitted) is nestled in a black plastic insert. Underneath that tray, a small black cardboard box contains the USB-C cable, user manual, and a spare 0.8ohm Klypse pod.

Build Quality

Score: 4/5

The Klypse Pro strongly resembles the original device. It has an almost identical slab build with rounded edge facets and a dust cap up top that ‘snaps’ on and off while also magnetically attaching to the base of the kit. On close inspection, we can see that the Klypse Pro is slightly larger in all dimensions than the original kit.

The first Klypse measured 94mm(H), 29mm(W), and 15mm(D), whereas the Klypse Pro measures 97mm(H), 31.5mm(W), and 16mm(D).

Another noticeable difference is the somewhat hidden display screen next to the sole button on the side of the kit.

The display screen is well-lit and functional, though quite small and a bit ‘slow.’ I found I had to wait about three seconds for the power adjustment function to activate, and the slow blink of the screen made changing power levels a bit frustrating.

The Klypse Pro is compatible with all of the Klypse Pods. The pods boast three-layer leak protections and are available in three different ohmages. Unfortunately, you cannot refill the pods while inserted into the kit, so you’ll have to do a little juggling when refilling on the go.

Frustratingly, the pods present one of the kit’s few annoyances. The slightly ‘pinched’ shape of the pods makes them a bit fiddly to pull free from the strong magnets within the device. It’s not a huge dealbreaker, but it can be annoying when coupled with not being able to refill the pods without removing them.

For those two small complaints, I’m taking a single point off for build quality, but I’m still very impressed by the dust cap.

Performance

Score: 4/5

The Klypse Pro is a low-fuss device and has a satisfying pull.  The power adjustment works well, too, but, as I mentioned earlier, it’s a little slow. But I’m at the risk of sounding ungrateful, and it’s important to remember that the original Klypse had no power adjustment whatsoever. That feature was introduced with the later Klypse Mecha.

And while a power output range of 6-25W may not sound huge, it’s worth noting that the power can be increased in 0.5W increments. The airflow slider is well placed as well, always within reach of your thumb in case you want to make some quick adjustments.

While it may not be laden with extra features, the Klypse Pro was never intended as a complex device. It’s a clean, streamlined, and efficient device that delivers good flavour promptly, with some lint protection and power adjustment for good measure.

Ease of Use

Score: 5/5

There aren’t any aspects of the Klypse Pro that will give new vapers cause for confusion or misunderstanding. The draw-activated device is extremely easy to use, requiring the very meagre maintenance of refilling the pod, keeping the device charged, and changing the pod every so often.

The single button on the side of the Klypse Pro is used to both turn the device on and off (three quick taps) and adjust the power (two taps). A single tap will just light up the screen.

All in all, it is a simple device with no confusing menus or modes to get lost in.

Battery Life

Score: 3.5/5

The battery in the Klypse Pro has a 1000mAh capacity, which is an increase on both the original Klypse (700mAh) and the Klypse Mecha (900mAh). While 1000mAh isn’t a groundbreaking amount of power capacity, I didn’t experience a sudden loss of power. You can find the device’s charging port at the base.

By tapping the button a single time, you can check your current battery life on the display screen and the Innokin logo on the side of the device also has coloured LEDs behind it that provide quick power indication when the kit is switched on, used or detects a pod being inserted or removed.

Flavour Output

Score: 5/5

I’ve tried a variety of different juice flavours – from rolling tobacco to sour oranges – with Klypse Pods to get a better feel for them. And, they clearly use good quality cotton because there’s no impurity of flavour that I can detect, and they carry flavour excellently.

Honestly, I’ve got no bad things to say about the flavour output potential of the Klypse Pro Kit!

Summary

The Innokin Klypse Pro is a lovely upgrade from the original Klypse. You get a larger battery capacity, an adjustable wattage, a screen, a battery indicator, and better pod performance, all while retaining the device’s ease of use and, of course, the iconic dust cap feature. 

The MIST Favourite Feature

• Dust Cap: I cannot tell you how many times I’ve taken my vape from my pocket, taken a drag, and hacked out a bunch of lint and bits of receipt paper. The dust cap is a genius innovation and, frankly, should have been done long before the Klypse!
