Vaporesso recently launched the MTL-focussed LUXE X2 in the hopes of significantly expanding the LUXE range user base. I’ve spent this week toying with the kit to see whether it retains any of Vaporesso’s old design concepts or if it’s an entirely new animal.
Here’s MIST full review of the LUXE X2 from Vaporesso.
MIST’s Verdict
Review Summary: The Vaporesso LUXE X2 is a lovely portable pod kit. The battery is fabulously large, and I never ran into issues of unexpected depletion during my time using it.
Packaging and Labels
The LUXE X2 arrives in the same black and green cardboard packaging as most of their other current devices. The front of the box sleeve shows the kit’s image and name and Vaporesso’s logo. The UK version of the kit will feature the TPD health warning, but my sample unit did not.
The sides of the box list features such as flavour promoting coil designs, battery capacity and pod compatibility, while the other side is reserved for a scratch-off authenticity graphic.
The back of the sleeve reveals a contents list, contact information for Vaporesso and health warnings.
Sliding off the sleeve, we see the cardboard apparatus that the kit is nestled within. The device rests to the left with a 0.6ohm pod already inserted. On the right, a cardboard sleeve containing the user manual, under which we find the spare 0.8ohm pod and USB-C charging cable.
It’s a small thing to mention, but I appreciate Vaporesso using less plastic in their packaging than most other manufacturers.
Build Quality
Score: 4.5/5
The LUXE X2 is very comfortable to hold in the hand. Its shape and bulk are similar to the LUXE X, XR, and XR Max kits, but surprisingly, it is still within an acceptable range of scale for a portable pod kit.
The zinc alloy build is one reason for the light weight of the device, with numerous plastic panels in place for grip strength and general design style. Once again we see translucent plastics used, something that always puts a smile on my face.
The somewhat ‘frosted’ plastic also increases grip comfort. The airflow slider on the side is excellent, far better than the usual studs manufacturers use and better designed for accurate slider placement.
Another nice feature is continued compatibility with LUXE X and XR Pods, which, as you may know, have a ‘turn-in-place’ airflow system, doubling your airflow customisation options.
While at first glance it may look as though the kit has a screen, it’s actually just a panel through which the power indication LED shines, letting you know how charged your battery is. Considering the device doesn’t have power adjustment, a display screen would ultimately just be a pointless drain on power.
The mouthpieces of the pods have also seen an upgrade, tapering more comfortably and resting snugly on your lip.
Performance
Score: 3.5/5
The performance of the unit is fine and flavoursome, with a very little detectable delay between beginning to puff and receiving vapour.
The airflow slider, pod choice, and which side the pod is facing allow some degree of customisation, but other than that, the LUXE X2 only does one job—and it just happens to do it well!
One issue I did run into was inconsistent output; once the battery reaches 40% charge there’s a noticeable drop in vapour production. Plus, there are no cool modes, functions, or menus to navigate So, I’m taking a point and a half off for performance.
Overall, the LUXE X2 didn’t do much to grab my attention. But for someone just starting out or seeking a no-fuss device, it’s a great choice.
Ease of Use
Score: 5/5
Now here’s a category that I can’t fault in the slightest! The LUXE X2 is incredible simple to use, and I’m confident that someone who’d never vaped before would only need a few minutes of use to totally master the device.
Removing the power adjustment might annoy some vapers (like me, haha), but it gives the less experienced or those who simply don’t care a way to get tasty vapour without any hassle.
Giving users the option between disposable pods with preinstalled coils and empty XR Pods is a great move, as it lets you decide whether you want to opt for convenience or value and customise your own experience.
Battery Life
Score: 5/5
Finally! I was looking forward to this section, as the battery life is one of the LUXE X2’s strongest fronts.
The device, which I’ll stress again, is VERY lightweight and compact and contains a whopping 2000mAh battery! This is a godsend, particularly when lower-resistance pods and coils cause your vape to fire at a more stressful output level.
The 1.5A charge speeds aren’t the fastest in the game, but it won’t take too long for your device to get back on its feet once the charge has been depleted. As it stands, you can vape for several days without needing to plug the kit in.
Flavour Output
Score: 4/5
Vaporesso has improved the flavour-carrying potential of its disposable pods with its newly improved COREX 2.0 technology. They now use better-quality cotton when building wicks, and the mesh heating element has been increased in size to provide even more surface area. Both of these aspects result in e-liquid that stays tastier for longer.
The 0.8ohm pods are slightly more moderate, producing tasty vapour in MTL-appropriate quantities. The 0.6ohm pods, on the other hand, send out a noticeable increase in vapour and, as a result, tend to produce a bit more flavour than the higher resistance pods.
While it’s never going to rival the flavour purity you get from an RDA, it’s an impressive new taste threshold for portable pod kits.
Summary
The Vaporesso LUXE X2 is a lovely portable pod kit. The battery is fabulously large, and I never ran into issues of unexpected depletion while using it. The unit’s build is tight, comfy, and stylish, and it’s phenomenally easy to use.
A longtime vaper might find it a bit dull, but new vapers will love the kit’s approachability.
The MIST Favourite Feature:
- 2000mAh Battery: The battery is fantastically large and somehow doesn’t result in a heavy device! With a charge that can last for days, the LUXE X2 won’t let you down when you need it the most.
