Vaporesso XROS 4 Review

Vaporesso’s XROS pod kits have been some of its most exciting releases in the past few years. They’ve stood out due to their easy functionality and great-quality pods. Plus, they have a slightly longer and boxier frame than many other pod pens on the market.

I’m in the enviable position of trying the XROS 4 to see if it’s up to the job of delivering no-fuss MTL hits to vapers like previous iterations in the series achieved so well.

Packaging and Labels

Photo collage showing the packaging and contents of the Vaporesso XROS 4

The XROS 4 arrives in the same green and black cardboard packaging as most other Vaporesso kits. The front shows a picture of the kit beneath the company logo and above the device’s name. Ordinarily, UK editions of this kit will have a TPD health warning on the bottom, but this sample unit does not.

One side of the box lists features of the kit, such as charge speeds and internal chipset, while the other side is reserved for an authenticity hologram and scratch-off section.

The back of the box lists technical specs, kit contents, contact information, and a health warning.

Within the box, we are first faced with an instruction manual sleeve. Subsequently, we find the kit itself, with a 0.4ohm pod already inserted, a spare 0.8ohm pod, and a USB-C charging cable.

Build Quality

Score: 4.5/5

The XROS 4 has the same somewhat ‘bulky’ design as the previous XROS kits, though not to an uncomfortable degree. It arrives as a slab of lightweight aluminium, with a liquid pattern stretched across the entirety of the red kit I received.

XROS kits are never as sleek and streamlined as some other pod kits, and this aesthetic works due to the boxy design of the XROS Pods. Despite this, the edges of the vape are smooth and round enough to prevent discomfort.

The charging port is on one side of the pen, and the airflow slider is on the ‘back’ of the kit. The front of the device shows the firing button situated within a glossier panel, which, when activated, reveals itself to be the unit’s light-up display system.

While there is a raised firing button, the kit also features draw activation for those who prefer a hands-free experience.

The pods have also seen an upgrade in the form of COREX 2.0 design evolutions, refining the mesh grid and cotton quality to produce internal coils that last longer and have a greater purity of flavour. Refilling is still done through a simple snap-off of the mouthpiece.

Performance

The XROS 4 sees some functionality upgrades by way of the display screen placed just above the firing button. The kit can now fire at three different power settings. While the device doesn’t have direct manual power adjustment, the onboard AXON chip detects your pod’s ohmage and sets the appropriate power output.

Tapping the firing button three times rapidly caused the device to switch between one of the three output modes, which we can effectively read as low – medium – high. The draw-activation is also very sensitive, firing the kit up the moment you begin to draw breath through the pod mouthpiece.

Ease of Use

Score: 5/5

The XROS 4 is extraordinarily easy to use and operate, with very few features and modes to confuse newcomers.

I think it was a good idea to provide power adjustment in a three-tiered format. New vapers, often used to disposables, often aren’t interested in learning about wattage outputs and other electrical jargon. A simple low – medium – high switch-up is all most MTL vapers need, and the XROS demonstrates it simply and effectively.

Refilling is also a breeze thanks to the snap-off mouthpieces, and the disposable nature of the pods means that there’s very little that can go wrong when using the XROS 4.

Battery Life

Score: 3/5

Here’s where I have to penalise the XROS 4 a tiny bit, sadly. The 1000mAh battery is, in my view, not large enough. I’m lucky to work in an industry where vaping at your desk is pretty commonplace, so I often chain vaping while I work.

This week, I’ve found that I need to give the XROS 4 a quick recharge after lunch on most days, and that’s only from using the middle power setting.

Most people, who tend to treat vaping like smoking and go outside for a ‘break,’ will likely find the 1000mAh battery large enough. And the 2A charge speeds mean it can be fully charged again in just a half hour. But I feel like a device this large and lightweight could have gone the extra distance and given us a 1200 or 1500mAh device. So a couple of points off for battery life.

Flavour Output

Score: 4.5/5

The flavour from the improved XROS Pods is superb! There’s a lovely richness to it with no impurities taken from the wicking materials. Vaporesso seems keen to emphasise the recent upgrades of the XROS Pods to feature better quality meshes and wicks, and the taste improvement is evident!

There aren’t any modes or functions that can further improve the taste of your e-liquid, but the airflow slider can always be tightened up to focus your vapour into a more concentrated beam of flavour, so there is a little taste customisation available.

Summary

The Vaporesso XROS 4 is the best XROS kit yet! The improvements are notable enough to move it beyond a simple upgrade, and I feel that any recent smoker or disposable vape user in need of a simple MTL kit will love this one! But I would advise them to ensure it’s fully charged or to carry a battery pack with them when going out.

The MIST Favourite Feature:

Three-Tiers: The streamlined power control is excellent, enough to satisfy an experienced vaper like me and likely simple enough for a total beginner to quickly master without having to learn a bunch of technical jargon.
