Voopoo Argus P2 Review

Having gone through several iterations, the Argus line now unleashes its latest model; the Voopoo Argus P2, which claims several notable upgrades on the design of 2022’s Argus P1.

Today, I’m going to be taking a closer look at the Argus P2 to see whether Voopoo have once again innovated pod vaping or if it’s simply a slight technical upgrade. I’m a fan of the Argus series, so I’ll be drawing on both my knowledge of the range and my over ten years of experience in the vape industry for the purpose of this review.

Packaging and Labels

Like most of Voopoo’s other recent releases, the Argus P2 arrives in the same mostly white cardboard box in a sleeve.

The front of the sleeve features a photo of the kit beneath the brand label and kit name. Ordinarily, a TPD-compliant health warning would take up the bottom third of the sleeve, but this isn’t the case with my review unit.

One side of the sleeve features an authenticity hologram and barcode, while the other showcases the device’s features such as the OLED screen and sliding airflow adjustment settings.

The back of the sleeve has a detailed contents list above a postal address for Voopoo, as well as health warnings.

Sliding off the sleeve reveals a small white box nestled above the kit. It contains the user manual, a spare 0.4ohm Argus Pod, a USB-C charging cable, and an optional lanyard.

Beneath this rests the kit with the 0.7ohm pod already placed inside. There’s a protective sticker underneath the pod that prevents an electrical connection between the pod and the device until you remove it.

Build Quality

Score: 4/5

The Argus P2 has almost identical dimensions to the original Argus P1.

With the pod installed, the vape is 78 mm high and 48.5 mm wide, almost as thin as a smartphone.

The casing is a mix of zinc alloy and polycarbonate. While neither has an ingress protection rating, it’s a durable blend that should withstand the average stress of daily use. Just be sure not to drop it into any bodies of water or quarries!

The white version I’m using has an attractive pearlescent sheen to the zinc-alloy surface and a very smooth feel which is comfortable in the hand. The nib used to adjust the airflow slider is small and unobtrusive, with a stud at the top of the unit which acts as both a firing button and mode select switch.

The stud is one of the main reasons this kit is receiving a 4 out of 5 score from me in terms of build quality, rather than a perfect score. There’s a ‘rattle’ to it that I find quite frustrating; just moving the kit gently is enough to make it move enough to hear faintly. It’s a shame, as the rest of the kit is very tucked, compact, and solidly built, so I’m not sure why this button was selected.

Still, to end this segment on a high note, I’m a huge fan of transparent plastic hardware, and the polycarbonate section is completely see-through, revealing part of the internal chipset, the LED power / select indicator, and the small OLED screen you’ll be tracking wattage and user modes on.

Performance

Score: 5/5

From a distance, the Argus P2 looks like quite a simple MTL vape kit. And it can be just that if it suits your vaping style. But taking a slightly closer look reveals a more complex and sophisticated suite of functions than first meets the eye.

Most impressively, the Argus P2 has four different user modes split into two categories.

Power mode will be familiar to anyone who’s used a vape with adjustable wattage before. The kit’s wattage range is 5W to 30W.

But those who dislike wattage fuss can instead opt for Shift mode, which presents three different operational functions that can be switched between with just three quick button taps.

SPT mode gives your current coil the maximum optimal power settings, squeezing out the most flavour and cloud production possible. On the other hand, NOR mode is the middle ground. It delivers reasonable vapour levels and great flavour while not stressing your battery too much.

Finally, ECO mode reduces the device’s power use, slightly restricting vapour production but significantly stretching out the remaining battery charge.

And while the stud can be used as a firing button, you can also begin vaping by just puffing through it for immediate atomisation.

Ease of Use

Score: 5/5

As mentioned in the performance section, the Argus P2 can be as easy to use as you want it to be.

If you’ve only recently given up smoking or disposable vapes, you might not be too keen to learn about things like wattage and coil resistance. If that’s the case, then Shift mode is the way to go because all the power settings are taken out of your hands and reduced to basically “high, medium, low.”

Refilling is also easier than ever, as the latest Argus Pods now feature a raised refill port so you don’t have to remove the pod from the device. This is a really useful feature when you’re juicing up while on the move.

Battery Life

Score: 4/5

The battery on the Argus P2 isn’t incredibly large, standing at only 1100mAh when fully charged.

For most people that’s going to be enough battery for a full day of vaping, but if you want to explore the 30W max outputs, you’re likely to find that running low fairly soon.

It is admittedly a significant increase on the Argus P1’s 800mAh battery, and they’ve managed to not make the vape noticeably heavier in the process, which is a plus.

So why the high 4 out of 5 score? 2A rated charge speeds, that’s why. When charging the kit, you can expect to go from totally empty to a fully charged battery in about an hour or less, which is an impressive speed.

Add to this the inclusion of Eco mode to stretch the power out when you aren’t in a position to charge, and it’s clear that Voopoo did everything they could to make the 1100mAh battery go as far as possible, and I feel that’s a laudable effort.

Flavour Output

Score: 5/5

The flavour produced by the new and improved Argus pods is exceptional. The pods feature pre-installed coils that use vertical mesh heating elements, which results in much faster and more evenly distributed temperature buildup. This means fewer burnouts and spoiled cotton, so the flavour stays pure for even longer.

Voopoo have upgraded the pods beyond the raised refill ports as well. They (the coils, specifically) can now manage to atomise up to 90ml of e-liquid without running into the risk of leaks, which on average, means each pod can last up to 30 days before needing to be replaced.

Summary

The Voopoo Argus P2 is more than a worthy successor to the Argus P1. The kit is as simple or advanced as you personally need it to be, making it an excellent choice for both new vapers and seasoned puffers looking for a new daily MTL vape kit. I’m seriously impressed with the Argus P2, and can tell that Voopoo have plenty more innovation up their sleeves to show us soon.

The MIST Favourite Feature

  • Eco Mode: Frankly, this should be a standard feature in all vapes by this point. Being able to significantly stretch out your battery at times when charging isn’t an option is a godsend, and it’ll leave you very pleased with your newly acquired pod kit.
