Voopoo are no strangers to disposables vapes. Their ZoVoo Drag Bars became a favourite for many vapers because of their unique lozenge shape, clear juice viewing, and rich flavours. This year, Voopoo have stepped up their game with the release of the Argus Prime Bar, a semi-disposable that puts 10ml of e-liquid in your hand without breaking TPD restrictions.
MIST’s Verdict
Review Summary: The Voopoo Argus Bar Prime is a great device, both for those wishing to move away from costly disposables and vapers who want a temporary device that they aren’t worried about losing or misplacing.
Review Disclosure: Voopoo has supplied MIST with the Argus Bar Prime units that I’ve been testing this week. Despite this generosity, you can be assured that all the thoughts and opinions in this review come from my perspective and experience as a vaper.
Packaging and Labels
The Argus Bar Prime arrives in a VERY colourful cardboard box, with an image of the device and e-liquid bottle on the front next to the company logo, product name, and unit flavour. At the bottom there’s the expected TPD health warning as well.
The sides of the box list features such as recharging capability and battery size, as well as information on the approximate puff count of the kit (6000 puffs, depending on your usage) and warnings against throwing the device into general waste receptacles—recycle your batteries, friends!
The back of the box shows some health warnings and technical specs for the device, as well as contact information for Voopoo and another TPD health warning.
Inside, there’s a small folded-up instruction manual tucked between two plastic packets. The packets contain the device and a 10ml bottle of e-liquid.
Once unwrapped, the device has rubber plugs in both the mouthpiece and the application port for the e-liquid bottle. Just remove those, plug the unscrewed bottle in, and you’re ready to go.
Build Quality
Score: 4/5
The Argus Bar Prime has an almost entirely plastic construction, yet it doesn’t have any of the ‘creakiness’ that plastic vapes sometimes suffer from. The kit is a bit larger than most disposable vapes but still sits comfortably enough in the palm, thanks to its rounded edges.
The front of the device has a backlit LCD screen which shows the charge level of the internal 650mAh battery. The two sides of the device are flanked by an airflow control slider and a USB-C charging port, respectively. The back of the device just shows the Prime logo.
The mouthpiece is wide and comfortable and doesn’t require you to purse your lips when inhaling.
And the e-liquid bottle has an interesting design as well. It has a screw-off cap and a unique shape that fits with the design of the device when it’s inserted. Once put in place, the kit begins siphoning e-liquid out of the bottle and into the fixed 2ml pod, which contains a vape coil.
The slightly rounded base of the kit is a bit frustrating to me, as it’s quite difficult to stand the kit upright with the bottle installed. Still, it’s a minor issue, and overall I give the Argus Bar Prime a 4 out of 5 for build quality.
Performance
Score: 4/5
In terms of performance, the device does a fine job, and it does showcase some real ingenuity in regards to semi-disposable sustainability. The auto-draw is very quick and responsive—there’s no noticeable delay between puffing and receiving e-liquid.
The auto-feeding e-liquid mechanism is really great, as other semi-disposable devices have attempted similar functions yet require you to ‘tilt’ the device to top up your juice.
You can also, technically, fill the feeding bottle with your own e-liquid once the included juice has run out, though. But without the ability to change the coil, you probably won’t get much more than the stated 6000 puffs out of the kit.
Ease of Use
Score: 5/5
I’ve got nothing bad to say about Argus Bar Prime’s ease of use; if you’ve used a disposable vape before, then you can use this as well. The only differences are airflow adjustment and tiny bits of maintenance, such as recharging and fitting the e-liquid bottle.
With no buttons to press or modes to switch between, there simply isn’t anything you can get wrong when using the Argus Bar Prime. And being a semi-disposable kit, I won’t knock any points off for ‘dull’ functionality as this kit does everything its target audience requires it to do.
Battery Life
Score: 4/5
Now, 650mAh is a fairly minuscule battery capacity, so let me justify my relatively high score here. I’ve been unable to find information on what the power output of the Argus Bar Prime is, but I can tell it isn’t very intensive due to the moderate vapour production.
So, when you consider that most disposable vapes contain batteries around 350 – 500mAh, and are able to provide enough charge to atomize their 2ml juice contents, you can be reasonably sure that a fully charged 650mAh battery will provide enough power to get you through at least 2ml of the included 10mls each day.
Flavour Output
Score: 5/5
This is where the Argus Bar Prime really shines. The e-liquid Voopoo have included with their kits is absolutely delicious. I was lucky enough to try the Strawberry Watermelon, Blueberry Sour Raspberry, Blueberry, Strawberry Kiwi and Lemon Lime units, and found each of them to be intensely sweet and zesty.
The mesh coil within the fitted pod does a great job of carrying the flavour with no noticeable impurities or dips in flavour. I’ve got no negative comments at all regarding flavour output!
Summary
The Voopoo Argus Bar Prime is a great device, both for those wishing to move away from costly disposables and vapers who want a temporary device that they aren’t worried about losing or misplacing.
While it would have been great to be able to change the coil and keep the party going, it would fundamentally change the kind of device we’re looking at. In terms of stepping stones away from disposables and towards refillable systems, the Argus Bar Prime is one of the best options.
The MIST Favourite Feature
E-Liquid Bottle: Now *this* was a clever idea! By keeping the attached bottle separate from the pod, Voopoo managed to put 10ml of e-liquid into a kit without breaking TPD restrictions. Interestingly it feels as though this idea was likely inspired by sub-ohm squonk mods. And if that is the case, I’m seriously impressed by Voopoo’s ability to bring wildly different vaping styles together.
